Recording and monitoring attendance
The local authority has a statutory responsibility to identify and track pupils missing, or at risk of missing education. This includes children who are not attending school provision full time and those accessing alternative provision. The local authority’s role includes:
- collecting data for all children not accessing full-time education in the usual way, including those who are accessing alternative provision
- sharing information across local authority boundaries in a timely and appropriate way
- ensuring that every child is on the role of a school, regardless of their circumstances, unless their parents have elected to home educate
- supporting alternative providers of education to understand and comply with legal requirements especially safeguarding and registration
