Request a DBS check
Before requesting a DBS you can enquire as to whether the new employee already has an appropriate DBS if:
- their last position was in a Lincolnshire maintained school and there hasn't been a break of more than three months
- the check is for the correct workforce and barred list (for example, Children's barred list in most schools, Children and Adults barred list in schools where some pupils are over the age of 18), then you can use their current DBS rather than requesting a new one
If the new employee hasn't previously been employed in a LCC maintained school, it could be that they are subscribed to the DBS Update Service. If they are, and you have sight of their DBS and again it has the appropriate workforce and enhanced list, you don't have to request another DBS.

Method of payment
The cost of this service is £85 for all except volunteer job roles, which are £3.99.
- Maintained schools must provide a cost code so a journal transaction can be completed.
- Academies must provide a Purchase Order number so we can invoice the school accordingly.
- Prime account schools must pay online using a credit or debit card at the end of the form.
DBS request form
In this form, you will be asked to upload three identification documents for the applicant.
You must ensure:
- all documents are in pdf format
- at least one document shows the current address
- the person who checked and verified the original documents has signed, dated and printed their full name on each copy - this must not cover any information on the document

Please note that:
- a DBS can take up to 60 days to process.
- candidates have fourteen days to complete the Verifile link which is sent to their email address.
- if candidates do not complete the link within 14 days and it expires, the school will still be charged.
