Outbreak - process for notifying HPT

In the event of a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 outbreak you should immediately contact the Health Protection Team (HPT) for advice. An outbreak is defined as two or more confirmed or clinically suspected cases within 14 days – detected by either LFD or PCR testing.

Our team will provide advice on how to manage the outbreak, including testing, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures, proper use of PPE, good hand hygiene and social distancing.

We are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Families and visiting professionals should also be notified by the provider. This can include District nurses, GP surgeries, Physiotherapists, Community Psychiatric Nurses etc.

Outside of the HPT working hours the provider should notify PHE on 0344 2254 524 (Option 1).

You should also contact the HPT if you get a single positive case from either LFD or PCR test. We will do a risk assessment and advise on outbreak testing.
